Stabilized Amboyna Burl
Amboyna Burl is one of the most prized exotic burl woods used for custom knife handles. Known for its rich color, intricate grain and deep three-dimensional figure, premium Amboyna Burl can display dense eyes, swirling patterns and dramatic variations ranging from golden brown and reddish orange to deep red-brown tones. Each piece has its own completely unique natural pattern.
Our Amboyna Burl caps are professionally stabilized to improve the strength, durability and dimensional stability of the natural wood. Stabilization helps reduce moisture absorption and the risk of movement or cracking while enhancing the contrast and depth of the burl figure. The stabilized material can be cut, shaped, sanded and polished to produce a smooth, high-quality finish.
Unlike pre-cut knife scales, larger Amboyna Burl cap pieces give knife makers more freedom to choose the orientation of the grain and cut the material specifically for their project. Depending on the size and natural structure of the individual piece, it can be used to produce knife scales, handle blocks, hidden-tang handles, pen blanks, jewelry and other custom projects.
Because Amboyna Burl is a natural material, every piece is one of a kind. Natural variations in color, grain, burl eyes, small voids, inclusions or irregular edges may be present and are part of the character of the wood.
Each piece shown in our store is the actual piece you will receive.
