We make every effort to maximize the filling of the porous areas during the stabilization and processing of the material. However, it is impossible to completely fill all internal cavities, especially those that are enclosed deep within the coral and cannot be reached during the filling process.

When making a finished knife handle, these natural characteristics should be taken into consideration. If small internal voids become exposed during machining, they can be filled with cyanoacrylate (CA glue) or epoxy resin, followed by careful sanding. The filling and sanding process may need to be repeated until the exposed voids are completely filled and the surface is smooth.

Natural Brittleness of Coral

It is important to understand that coral has a calcareous (limestone-based) structure and is naturally much more brittle than plastic, synthetic materials, or dense stabilized wood. The natural structure of coral cannot be changed to make it completely uniform or resistant to damage during machining.

Extra care should be taken during cutting, drilling, milling, grinding, and fitting. Excessive pressure, impact, heat, or improper machining techniques can cause chipping, cracking, or breakage.
